On Thursday 27th May, Year 8 girls from the Achieve Program attended the WISE Women event at Murdoch University.

The WISE Women project is designed to encourage females to consider a career in STEM by providing the opportunity to interact with women working in STEM careers.

Students were able to explore careers in STEM and entrepreneurship for women.

They even had a chance to attend a keynote lecture presented by Ellie Coplin, an inspiring 16-year-old Tech Entrepreneur.

Jasmin Watkins, our Coordinator of Academic Programs, facilitated the day and accompanied students on the excursion said, “At Coastal Lakes College we have a whole of college focus on 21st-Century STEAM skills, by providing students with an opportunity to see real world examples of these skills in action we are able to demonstrate the importance, and establish links as to why we are focussing on these skills.”

Feedback from the students was very positive, “I enjoyed the part where they explained university and the girl talked about her area (animal studies),” said Zahara from 8.1. Whilst Isla from 8.5 thought the day was very inspirational and the food was sensational.
